Peak Awards
SAHC presents peak awards to members who climb a certain number of peaks in Southern
Arizona. These peaks range from simple walk-ups (Ray Spring Hill) to possible drive-ups
(Mt Lemmon) to very challenging rock scrambles (Cherry Spring Peak). Once you have
completed the requirements for an award, submit your list with dates of ascent to
the Chief Guide. Awards, (patches and/or plaques) will normally be presented at
the monthly program meetings or at the Winter Cookout or Spring Picnic. The requirements
for peak awards are as follows:
SAHC 25 AWARD:To those hikers who climb any 25 peaks on the SAHC Peak List. No emblem peaks need
be climbed but can be. All peaks must be climbed on officially scheduled SAHC trips.
This award may be achieved by “C” level hikers and determined “D” hikers as well.
SAHC 50 AWARD:To those hikers who climb 50 of the listed peaks on the SAHC Peak List. At least
5 of the Emblem Peaks must be climbed. These peaks may be climbed by any route in
any order. All peaks must be climbed on officially scheduled SAHC trips. This award
may be achieved by “C” level hikers and determined “D” hikers as well.
SAHC 75 AWARD:To those hikers who climb 75 of the listed peaks on the SAHC Peak List. At least
10 of the Emblem Peaks must be climbed. These peaks may be climbed by any route
in any order. 75 percent of these peaks must be climbed on officially scheduled
SAHC trips. This award may be achieved by determined “C’ level hikers.
SAHC
100 AWARD: To those hikers who climb 100 of the listed peaks on the SAHC Peak List.
At least 15 of the Emblem Peaks must be climbed. These peaks may be climbed by any
route in any order. 75 percent of these peaks must be climbed on officially scheduled
SAHC trips. This award may be achieved by strong determined “C” level hikers.
SAHC 200 AWARD:
To those hikers who climb 200 of the listed peaks on the SAHC Peaks List. At least
20 of the Emblem Peaks must be climbed. These peaks may be climbed by any route
in any order. 75 percent of these peaks must be climbed on officially scheduled
SAHC trips.
SAHC 300 AWARD:To those hikers who climb 300 of the listed peaks on the SAHC Peaks List. At least
30 of the Emblem Peaks must be climbed. These peaks may be climbed by any route
in any order. 75 percent of these peaks must be climbed on officially scheduled
SAHC trips. A SAHC 300 peaks patch will be awarded to each hiker
who achieves this award.
SAHC 400 PLAQUE AWARD:To those hikers who climb 400 of the listed peaks on the SAHC Peaks List. At least
40 of the Emblem Peaks must be climbed. These peaks may be climbed by any route
in any order. 75 percent of these peaks must be climbed on officially scheduled
SAHC trips. A SAHC 400 peaks patch and club plaque will be awarded to each hiker
who achieves this award.
SPECIAL NOTE:Although there are 415 peaks on the SAHC Peaks List to chose from there will be
no “special award” presented to those hikers who climb all 415 peaks.
CORONADO HIGH PEAKS AWARD:
To those hikers who climb the highest peak in each of the 12 units of the Coronado
National Forest (Arizona and New Mexico). At least 9 of the ascents must be on officially
scheduled SAHC trips.
SAHC Emblem Peaks Award: To those hikers who climb all of the emblem peaks currently listed on the SAHC Peaks
list. These peaks may be climbed by any route in any order. All these peaks must
be climbed on officially scheduled SAHC trips. A SAHC Emblem Peak Award patch will
be awarded to each hiker who achieves the award.
SAHC Trail Keeper Award: To those hikers who participate in a total of ten hikes.
These hikes may be either trail maintenance
or Adopt-A-Highway hikes.The hikes may be officially
scheduled SAHC hikes or unofficial hikes coordinated by the SAHC Trail Keeper or
the club member in charge of the SAHC Adopt-A-Highway program.
Additional patch
chevrons are awarded for each additional ten hikes attended.
SAHC Wilderness Kids:To those hikers under 17 years of age who participate in a minimum of 10 officially
scheduled SAHC hikes in wilderness areas.
SAHC Guides Award:To those hikers who guide 10 officially scheduled SAHC hikes.
SAHC Certificates of Appreciation and Merit:Each year at the SAHC Winter Cookout a Certificate of Appreciation, signed by the
President and the Chief Guide (suitable for framing) is awarded to each SAHC Guide
who has led 25 or more hikes during the preceding year.
Each year at the SAHC Winter Cookout a Certificate of Merit, signed by the President
and the Chief Guide (suitable for framing), is awarded to each club member who participates
in 50 or more hikes during the preceding year.
