In response to complaints about the SAHC website not working properly when submitting hikes or hike results.
Folks need to understand that the website process may not work 100% of the time, I would venture to say that I think the SAHC website works 99% of the time. The web host does not claim that their services are available 100% of the time, 99% is the claim.
The SAHC website rents space on a web hosting server, we are not the only website on the server. When an error occurs most of the time it is a server issue. The server may be experiencing a lot of traffic when the submission error occurs. The server may be in the middle of a reboot, it may experience memory issues from time to time. Perhaps the data got corrupted in the transmission process. The best remedy is for the user is to reload the page and refresh the browser window. If this does not correct the issue, simply waling for awhile and trying the submission again and it will probably work fine.
The other day I went to use my banks ATM, it was not operating properly, have you ever went out and tried to start your car and the battery was dead? Things happen, things don’t always work the way they should. That’s life!
The SAHC website is complicated, it has a login process, it has several large databases that need to be referenced on a daily basis, it works fine most of the time, on the occasions when it doesn’t perform the way it should please don’t panic and complain, just be patient and try again in a short while.
It has been noted that some members and guides are using their SAHC website login number containing preceding zeros instead of their member numbers on Trail sheets, Hike Submission Forms and Hike Results Forms.
Member numbers do not contain preceding zeros, only the website login uses preceding zeros to obtain the six characters required for the login process. Members may also change their password to any password containing at least 6 characters.
Using preceding zeros in the above processes may result in additional time and cause errors in the processing of the forms. In the Hike Results form using preceding zeros in the member numbers may result in the form returning Unknown in the member name field. If not corrected the Bulletin Editor must lookup the names and this results in additional time and effort to publish the Bulletin and eBulletin.
The incorrect numbers may also cause errors in the processing of SAHC statistical reports.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Again this year at the Winter Picnic, SAHC is collecting donations of non-perishable foods for the Community Food Bank. We've been doing this for several years, and it seems a good way to lend a hand to a worthy organization.
The Food Bank is grateful for any donation; however they following items are always a priority:
- Canned Soups
- Canned Meats
- Canned Vegetables
- Canned Tomato Products
- Canned Fruit
NO GLASS JARS, please. THANK YOU for bringing a few items to the Winter Picnic on Saturday, January 30th.
Cleanup on the Pass scheduled for December 12, 2015
Please demonstrate SAHC's support for this multi-agency activity funded by TreadLightly. I have committed that I will bring at least 10 members to participate in this cleanup!!! Here is your chance for holiday community giving! From CAT we drive to the Pass kiosk. We get our t-shirts, a raffle ticket for (free) give-a-ways, and our cleaning assignment area. SAHC has been invited to set up our informational booth, as well! I do not anticipate this activity going into much of the afternoon, but I can't promise you an end time- depends on what area they assign us. PLEASE call or email me so I can get a count of volunteers. I'll bribe you with yummy snacks~ Thank you for your help!!!
