Sun., Feb. 7 will be the next Sabino Canyon Recreation Area Arundo (Giant Reed) volunteer day. Please arrive at 7:45 a.m. Again, there will be two registration locations. Both places will have team leaders to walk you to the Sabino Dam area work site, where tools and work gloves will be waiting.
1. If you already have a parking pass for Sabino Canyon or if you want to buy one, park in the visitor center lot and register at the ramadas as usual.
2. If you would like free parking, park in the overflow lot and register with volunteers there.
We will work until noon. Please wear sturdy shoes or boots, a long-sleeve shirt and long pants to protect your arms and legs, a hat, sunglasses or safety glasses and bring water.
To get to the overflow parking lot and free parking, continue north on N. Sabino Canyon Rd. past the Sabino Canyon visitor center entrance. Take a right turn at the next road, which is signed “Southern Arizona Rescue Association.” Drive a short distance to an open gate on the left. Go through the open gate and up a short gravel drive. Conditions are primitive, there is one porta-potty and no water available.
If you can help, please RSVP to tucson.arundo@gmail.com or call Kendall at 520-971-2385.
