Frances “Buzzy” Royball unexpectedly passed away June 30th. Born 1928 in New Jersey, Buzzy was the youngest of three sisters.
After putting herself through nursing school, she joined the Air Force where she met her husband Frank. After raising her children,
Buzzy returned to work as an Operating Room RN at Saint Joseph’s hospital. She enjoyed many activities including refurbishing furniture,
rummaging through thrift stores, playing tennis, and hiking. As a member of the Southern Arizona Hiking Club, Buzzy bagged 315 peaks near Tucson.
She could often be seen walking in the vicinity of Udall park where she achieved near legendary status as The Walking Lady, logging 8-12 miles every day for 20+ years. Buzzy also enjoyed singing, whistling, and her own unique form of dancing.
She was often seen kicking it up at celebrations or whenever the mood struck her. Although Buzzy struggled with her memory in recent years,
we are very thankful that she never lost her friendly and cheerful personality.
Buzzy is survived by her three sons (Ty, Reid, and Rand), their wives (Mary, Kathryn, and Carol), and four grandchildren (Merrick, Hannah, Kelsey, and Bryce).
She is preceded in death by her husband Frank and granddaughter Carly.
Buzzy will be remembered with a memorial walk between 6 and 9 AM, Saturday July 30th at Sabino Canyon.
Please join us for a walk or just to share some Buzzy stories.
